Meet Donna Edwards

Donna Edwards is a long-time Ajax resident, community advocate, wife, mother, and experienced elected representative who has dedicated her career to serving the community she proudly calls home.
For the past 16 years, Donna has represented Ajax as a School Board Trustee, earning a reputation for thoughtful leadership, public accountability, and strong advocacy. She has extensive experience in governance, strategic decision-making, public consultation, and navigating complex issues while representing the interests of students, families, and the broader community.
In addition to her elected experience, Donna has spent more than 10 years consulting to and working with local and regional municipalities. This has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of municipal government, regional partnerships, and how decisions are made and implemented. Combined with her experience as a Trustee, Donna is well prepared to transition quickly and effectively into the role of Ward 3 Regional Councillor.
As a 40-year resident of Ward 3, Donna has witnessed Ajax's growth firsthand. She understands both the opportunities and the challenges that come with a growing community and recognizes the importance of thoughtful planning, responsible growth, and ensuring regional services keep pace with residents' needs. She knows the concerns residents raise about traffic, affordability, public safety, accessibility, transit, infrastructure, and protecting the quality of life that makes Ajax such a great place to live.
Donna's commitment to public service extends well beyond elected office. Over the years, she has served on community association boards, School Community Councils (SCC), and the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). Today, she serves as Community Coordinator (Chair) for Greater Durham Special Olympics Ontario Community Council, where she is also the Team Manager and Head Coach for the Rhythmic Gymnastics team. Donna has coached Special Olympics athletes for more than 24 years at the local, provincial, national, and international levels and has been recognized by both Special Olympics Ontario and the Coaches Association of Canada for her coaching excellence and leadership.
Donna is running for Regional Councillor because she believes Ward 3 deserves experienced, accountable leadership and a strong voice at both Ajax Council and Durham Regional Council.
Regional Council decisions directly affect everyday life—from transit, regional roads, policing, and growth planning to waste collection, water and wastewater services, public health, housing, and other essential services. Donna believes residents deserve a representative who is accessible, communicates clearly and transparently, listens carefully, asks the right questions, and ensures Ward 3's priorities are heard at the Regional Council table.
Donna is known for being prepared, approachable, and willing to speak up when it matters. She believes public service requires more than being visible during an election campaign. It requires integrity, accountability, follow-through, transparent communication, and a genuine commitment to making decisions that reflect the needs of the people being served.
Her commitment is simple: listen to residents, advocate with integrity, communicate openly, and help ensure Ward 3 has a strong, respected voice at both Ajax Council and Durham Regional Council.
